What is Search engine optimization?
(Search Engine Optimization) SEO is a process of arranging a web site's content to obtain high rankings in various search engines (both the site and individual pages), and includes tailoring on-page text (such as headlines and subtitles) as well as choosing the proper keywords for a page's meta tags.
SEO is an abbreviation for "search engine optimizer." Many SEOs provide useful services for website owners, from writing copy to giving advice on site architecture and helping to find relevant directories to which a site can be submitted. However, a few unethical SEOs have given the industry a black eye through their overly aggressive marketing efforts and their attempts to unfairly manipulate search engine results.
Why Search engine optimization?
If you think having a website is a big thing, then you are probably missing something. What is the purpose to be ranked at the 400 position in a search engine? How do you think someone will find your site?
Try to search a key phrase to find you own website like say if your site name is xyzabc.com try to search the major search engines like Google, yahoo & msn. Can you find it in the first page results of search engines? Probably not! Hence, that's no problem at least you know now why you need SEO for your website!
Getting into the Search Engines!
New sites do not need to be "submitted" to search engines to be listed. However, Google and Yahoo offer a submission program such as Google Sitemaps that an XML type feed could be created and submitted. Generally however, a simple link from an established site will get the search engines to visit the new site and begin to spider its contents. It can take a few days or even weeks from the acquisition of a link from such an established site for all the main search engine spiders to commence visiting and indexing the new site.
